Position and organization of the Society

The Scientific Society of Serbia is a legal person with the seat in Belgrade, Šafarikova 7, active on the territory of Serbia. In 1977 it was registered as a socially active organization. 

The Society is represented by its President, elected in accordance with the provisions of the Statutes of the Scientific Society of Serbia and legislation.

The Society Bodies and Their Composition in 1999


The Assembly is the supreme body of the Society composed of all member scientists. 

The Presidency is the executive body composed of: 

  • the president,
  • two vice-presidents,
  • secretary general of the Society and
  • 5 members of the Presidency.


The supervisory board is elected by the assembly to supervise financial and material transactions. The board is composed of the president of the board and two additional members. 

The Assembly elects department secretaries and their deputies upon the recommendation of the President. 

On the plenary session held on June 25th 1998 elections for the society bodies were held with the following outcome:

Prof. Dr Jagoš Purić was elected the secretary of the department of natural sciences and mathematics, while Prof. Dr Vera Kovačević-Vujčić was elected the deputy secretary. 

Prof. Dr Milić Stojić was elected the secretary of the department of technical sciences, while Prof. Dr Nenad Đajić was elected the deputy secretary. 

Prof. Dr Miodrag Simonović was elected the secretary of the department of biomedical sciences, while Prof. Dr Jovan Vasiljević was elected the deputy secretary. 

Prof. Dr Zivko Kostić was elected the secretary of the department of social sciences, while Prof. Dr Stojan Novaković was elected the deputy secretary.
