Founding of the Scientific Society of Serbia The founding of the Scientific Society of Serbia was initiated in 1968 by Prof.Dr Vojislav K. Stojanović, who used to be the President of the Association of University Professors for years. On the Plenary Session held in Belgrade on November 11th 1968 the Statutes on the foundation and activities of the Society for Development and Promotion of Science. In December 1968 the local commission was established with the following members: Professor of Medicine, Dr Vojislav K. Stojanović, Professor of Architecture, Dr Đurđe Bošković, Professor of Law Dr Nikola Stjepanović, and Professors of Mathematics Dr Djuro Kurepa and Milorad Mlađenović, all from the University of Belgrade. In March 1969 the preparatory consultative meeting was held. The President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, one member of the Executive Council of Serbia, Chairman of the Council for coordination of scientific activities and a few members of the Association of University Professors were present in addition to the members of the local commission. The Constituent Assembly was scheduled at the meeting. After numerous consultations with outstanding professors and acknowledged scientists the local commission selected 17 members of the society. According
to the preliminary procedures, the Constituent Assembly was held on June
19th 1969 on the premises of the Association of University Professors.
The decision was passed to establish the SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY together with
the temporary statutes on the activities of the Society as a part of the
Association of University Professors and other Scientific Workers of Serbia.
The first administration was elected:
President: Prof. Dr Vojislav K. Stojanović
Separation
of the Scientific Society from the Association of University Professors
and its set up as an independent entity and a legal person was effectuated
subsequently pursuant to the pertinent legal regulations.
