KMail might not be earth-shattering but it's one of the best e-mail clients currently available for Linux, and it definately has potential. What's more, it's incredibly easy to setup.
- 1 -
Logged-in to whichever account you want to send and receive e-mail from, enter:
pico ~/signature
...to create a Signature file for your e-mails. Here's what mine looks like:
--== Laurence Hunter ==--
laurence@linuxdot.org
http://www.linuxdot.org/ ... Maintains the Newbie's Linux Manual
When you're finished, press Ctrl+O to save it and Ctrl+X to exit Pico.
- 2 -
Enter:
startx
...and open KMail (KDE menus > Internet > Mail client).
- 3 -
Fill in the text boxes on the "Identity" screen. Here's what I put:
Name: Laurence Hunter
Organization: Linuxdot.org
Email Address: laurence@linuxdot.org
Reply-To Adress: laurence@linuxdot.org
Signature File: /home/laurence/signature
- 4 -
Click on the "Network" tab. Select "SMTP" and enter your "Server" address. Mine is:
smtpmail.globalnet.co.uk
- 5 -
Click the "Add..." button to bring up a "Select Account" window. Select "Pop3" then "OK" to bring up a "Configure Account" window. Here's what I entered:
Name: Global
Login: thebits
Password: Now that would be telling. ;)
Host: mail.globalnet.co.uk
Finish by pressing the "OK" button.
