What's the story behind "Einstein on the Beach" and where can I find a copy of it?

Adam Duritz writes -- "Dave Bryson and I wrote the song a couple of years ago in a hotel room in Los Angeles. I was trying to sleep, but I kept humming guitar parts in my head and then making David get up to play them. Then David kept hearing melodies in his head, and waking me up to sing them. We finally finished the song at 4 a.m. and recorded it on the answering machine in the hotel room. I always loved the song, but it didn't seem to belong on August and Everything After. Not mopey enough." (source of quote unknown but supplied by Tom Williams)
